North Carolina Scholarship Program

    The North Carolina Scholarship Program consists of the Erline Mayberry Scholarship and the Otis N. Brown and Billy Ray Cameron Scholarships.  These scholarships were  established to honor members from North Carolina who served as a National Commander-in-Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars or a National President of the Ladies Auxiliary.

 

The Erline Mayberry Scholarship, named for Miss Erline Mayberry, is open to the following: 

v                 Son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, stepchild, or foster child

v     Must be enrolled as a senior in either a public, private, charter, church, or home school

v   Applicant may attend a college outside of North Carolina.

 

The sponsoring parent or grandparent must:

v   be a member of a North Carolina VFW Post and/Ladies Auxiliary 

v   have paid current dues (2011) and dues for previous year (2010) or Life Member

v   if deceased, member must have been a member in good standing at time of death

 

Proof of Membership:

Ø      A copy of the National Membership Maintenance Report (Continuous Members) or the National Annual Maintenance Report (Life Members) must be submitted with the Preliminary Application.  These reports are available from the Auxiliary Treasurer or the Post Quartermaster. 

Ø      Copies are required for 2011 and 2010 membership.

Ø      Do not send copies of Auxiliary or VFW Rosters as proof!

 

The Erline Mayberry Scholarship Trustees (total of 5) select the top three students based on academics, financial need, and character and service.  Currently, three $1,000 scholarships are awarded by the Trustees.

 

2010 Erline Scholarship Winners are:  

Ø      Emma Jane Bays, Durham, NC, Auxiliary 2740, granddaughter of Charlotte Bays

Ø      Bradley Nelson Dean, Jr., Calabash NC, Auxiliary 7288, grandson of Frances Sophie Redfield

Ø      Richard Stacey Ceynar, Sanford, NC., VFW Post 5631, son of Denise Lynn Maguire

 

TREASURERS:

      Please make a copy of your check for any donation to the three scholarships to be submitted with the 2011 year-end report.  This will make the judging much easier in determining the winners for the scholarship program.
