North Carolina Scholarships Program

As the 2010 - 2011 school year has begun, now is the time to get the word out to your VFW and Auxiliary members regarding the three scholarships which are available to their children and grandchildren who are high school seniors.  These scholarships are: Erline Mayberry Scholarship (a $1,000 scholarship which is a one-time award given by the Department Auxiliary) and Otis N. Brown and Billy Ray Cameron Scholarships (a $1,000 renewable 4- year scholarship awarded by the Department VFW).

Proof of eligibility for the sponsoring VFW or Auxiliary parent or grandparent is required to be submitted with each Erline Mayberry Scholarship Preliminary Application from the student.  This proof is provided by the Auxiliary treasurer or the Post quartermaster.

ATTENTION TREASURERS:

For Continuous Members: Please submit a copy of the current year (2011) Monthly Maintenance Journal and a copy  of the previous Year (2010) Monthly Maintenance Journal from National Headquarters.

For Life Members:  Please submit a copy of the 2011 Life Member Maintenance Journal and 2010 Life Maintenance Journal from National Headquarters.  The Life Membership Maintenance Journals are mailed to treasurers in September or October.  Please do not send a copy of your membership list from National because it will not show that the member has paid for 2011.

The Journals are printouts of membership dues which show that member dues have been received and posted at National Headquarters.  Treasurers are supposed to keep these on file with their membership records.

Preliminary applications, with proof of eligibility, are due postmarked no later than 15 February 2011.

A copy of the Erline Mayberry Scholarship Preliminary Application is included in this mailing.  The Otis N. Brown/Billy Ray Cameron Preliminary Application will be included in the November mail because Department Quartermaster Bruce Edwards releases the form in November. The same application is used for both VFW Scholarships.

Presidents and Parents/Grandparents:  Please make sure the Preliminary Application is mailed on time and follow through with them to offer assistance for Final Application.

Please contact me if you have any questions.  You may make copies of the applications to hand out.
